BUREAU SLA WILL MOVE TO HEMBRUGTERREIN

bureau SLA is moving to our new, self-designed office at the cultural hotspot Hembrugterrein in Zaandam. The large, early 20th century workshop A11 at Wagenmakerij 1, is part of the former arms factory Artillerie Inrichtingen. The workshop, consisting of three adjoining halls, has been transformed into a combined living-working space for eight households. The middle hall has been opened up and now situates a spectacular patio. A hall on either side, contains living or working space. bureau SLA has created the design for the renovation of the building, which has been completed last June. Read more about project A11 Hembrug.

The new residents are currently finishing their interiors, each according to their own wishes. bureau SLA chooses a novel design for its workspaces, with the use of circular materials and experimental techniques, in line with the character of it’s architectural practice. For example, in our office one walks on a uniquely large, self-laid terrazzo floor, made from discarded gravestones. All interior walls are constructed from reused CLT prefab elements, originating from a former AUDI pavilion. Wall coverings made of wool, a contemporary surplus product, provide pleasant acoustics in the office. The office and meeting space, separated by the patio, will be connected via a glass corridor, made of reclaimed materials from the workshop itself.

we look forward to welcoming you to our new office!
